Caregivers

Portal

When someone suffers a spinal cord injury, the entire family is impacted. It is life-changing, and it can be overwhelming. In most cases, the role of primary care giver is taken up by a family member. It’s a 24-7 position that comes with no training. The Caregivers Portal provides support to the unsung heroes who take up the mantle of caregiver.

It starts with our Caregivers Working Group, chaired by Michelle Shazier, who experienced first-hand the challenges of being a caregiver during Ryan’s recovery. The group serves as a sounding board in developing programming. Our goal is to provide the support and connection to resources that allow caregivers to attend to their own needs, too.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Edgar Snyder and Associates Foundation

As Ryan’s wife and primary caregiver through his injury and rehab process, she has witnessed every step of the way to the Fund’s creation and growth. Michelle remains committed to the Fund and is pleased to take on more responsibility as a member of the Board and serve as the chair of Family & Caregiver Working Group. Michelle considers it an honor and privilege to support caregivers, because of her own personal experience as one, and she wants them to know that they are not alone as they navigate adapting to changes in their personal life while supporting their loved ones.

“We support the Ryan Shazier Fund for Spinal Rehabilitation’s mission of giving those with spinal cord injuries and their caregivers the support, resources, and funding they need to live independent and meaningful lives. As a family that has faced life-altering spinal cord and brain injuries, we have seen firsthand the importance of building a solid community around recovery and rehabilitation.”
